Rapt at the sight of the rainbow, she failed to see the advancing sandstorm at her back.

Ah, mein Gott!

This is terrific! The color work blows away anything I've ever seen out of you, it's just so well balanced. The purples, reds and blues counterweight eachother in a very appealing way, and the reflection of the rainbow really pops! Very clean line-work (Especially on those goggles), I mean, you're linework's usually pretty clean, but this is cleaner than most of it, I think. Excellent shading, very nuanced and there's a good sense of where the light sources are on goggles-girl and Treaia. The shot is framed perfectly. The flame-like fractalish pattern in the back is awesome.

I'm serious when I say, I don't think I've ever been more impressed by one of your pieces. There's just so many subtle layers where you nailed it.

Also, the Indian (Particularly Krishna) influences are new. Is this another mystic aesthetic which you are bringing into the amalgam that is your style? If so, I approve! Your work is really starting to become something different with this last set of drawings you've posted. I like the direction. Why aren't you doing this professionally? Particularly, why the hell aren't you drawing comics!? Sure, it's all well and good to be a "fine" artist, I guess. But your talents really lend themselves to graphic storytelling.

Wow, that was a long comment.

In addition, your pencil and color work is better than Mike Grell's, who is famed for doing the artwork in the legendary "Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters" series. I'm pretty sure I lent it to you at one point and you mentioned you loved the art.

You could do a graphic novel with that level of craftsmanship, at this point in your artistic evolution. I'm not even joking.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. It makes my day knowing you took the time to write that. A graphic novel? Who says I'm NOT doing a graphic novel? Well, not really... Even though I draw comics constantly. A full-color story would be fun to draw but so time-consuming. It frustrates me knowing I have so much potential to produce more art but I'm too busy scraping for survival. I've considered drawing a Bishounen Hunters "pilot episode" that I could print up as a booklet to send to publishers. (Can you get me free xeroxes? *wink*) Most of my comics are just raw drafts that never get beyond my sketchbook. You'd like to see me unleash my archives on the world, the graphic diaries that pile up in closets. But are the stories too personal? I'm not trying to speak to others, just to dialogue with my thoughts, like Taryn does. I'm working on a story right now explaining some of the symbolism I picked up at Krishna Camp. It opens with Jaya complaining:

"Ever since Mom came back from Burning Man she's been acting like a religious nut!"

Then the dragons show up.

Haha, sweet stuff.

I know you draw lots of comics. But you really are speaking to yourself. I think it's more important for an artist, when presenting something for public consumption, to be speaking to her audience, and not just to herself. She might be talking ABOUT herself, but to the audience, the reader.

I really like peeking into your head, and reading your little sketchbook diaries, but I know you personally. I have an invested interest in getting to know you. It's different for a stranger.

I can get you all the free copies you need. I'd like to see a real issue of Bishounen Hunters.
And your story with the Krisha stuff sounds like fun. I like dragons.

*sigh* I wish I could think of something more substantial to say than "Cool!" right now, but my knowledge of art and the English language is failing me at the moment. Love this.
